The Lord Botetourt soccer teams drew Salem sides last Thursday and both the boys and girls came out on the short end. The boys hosted Salem and lost 2-1 while the girls played on the Spartans’ pitch and fell 4-0.

Facing a talented Salem squad, the LB boys battled throughout a competitive match in which possession was contested from start to finish. While the final score did not go in Botetourt’s favor, the effort shown by the team offered plenty of positives moving forward.

The match also marked the return of Tim Wright as head coach, bringing leadership and direction to a program looking to build momentum this season. With a young core gaining valuable experience early, the Cavaliers believe they are laying the foundation to be competitive in the region.

“Although the opener ended in a narrow defeat, Lord Botetourt came away with confidence, a sense of purpose, and optimism for the season road ahead,” said Wright.

The girls split two games last week. While most everyone else was rained out the Cavaliers managed to get in a Tuesday game with Magna Vista at the Smith River Sports Complex and dominated the host Warriors with an 8-0 win.

The LB offense was led by Emery Collins, who scored a three-goal hat trick. Maddie May had two goals while Taylor Jones, Luci Rock and Annalee Campbell had one goal each. Collins also had two assists while Jones, Rock, Reagan Helms, Kinsley Milko and Maggie Caldwell had one assist each.

Last Thursday the Cavs were in Salem and dropped a 4-0 decision. LB will return from break next Tuesday when Magna Vista returns the trip for Botetourt’s home opener.

The boys are at Magna Vista Monday and home to Heritage a week from tonight, on April 1.
