Daleville will be the site of a Region 3D soccer doubleheader on Thursday as the post-season moves to a “win-or-go-home” format. Lord Botetourt will host Hidden Valley in both games.

The boys game will be first with a kickoff time of 5:30 p.m. The girls will follow at approximately 7:15 p.m. and one admission is good for both games. Neither Cavalier team played Hidden Valley during the regular season.

The boys open the doubleheader with a 6-10-2 record compared to 4-9-3 for Hidden Valley. The LB boys made it to the Blue Ridge District tournament championship game last week before falling to William Fleming in the final, 5-0.

In last week’s semifinal at LB the Cavaliers defeated Northside, 3-1. Goal scorers for the Cavaliers were Mateo Oviedo, Andres Barroso Fossi and Kalob Daniels. Oviedo was pulled up from the jayvee team for the post season to give the Cavs some depth and was able to knock in his first varsity goal.

The girls played the second game of last week’s BRD tournament semifinal doubleheader and advanced with a 5-1 win over William Byrd. Katherine Woodward had two goals and scoring once each were Autumn Estrada, Emma Rice and Erna Dietrich.

With the win the LB girls advanced to the BRD championship game where they lost to Franklin County in overtime, 2-1. Rice score for Botetourt, assisted by Cailey Petrauskas.

The Cavaliers go into Thursday’s game with a 13-5 record while Hidden Valley is 10-5-1.
