The Lord Botetourt cross country team took individual and team honors at a “Senior Day” race on the Greenfield Recreation Park 5K course last week. The races were moved up a day, to March 29, to avoid impending inclement weather.

LB, Alleghany, Staunton River and William Fleming all sent runners to the meet. The Cavaliers won both the girls’ and boys’ team titles, 22-33 over second place Alleghany in the girls’ race and 22-36 over the runner-up Mountaineers in the boys’ race.

Sydney Vokus was the individual winner for the girls with a time of 21:12, followed by teammate Lauren Duff in second at 22:32. Also scoring for LB were freshman Ella Johnston in fifth, Sofia Hernandez in seventh place and Brielle Jackson in ninth. Taking 15th through 17th were Cavaliers Brooklyn Hornback, Karley Burks and Alexis Carillo.

Lord Botetourt’s Evan Gates won the boys’ race with a time of 17:42, four seconds ahead of teammate Bryson Cook who was the runner-up. Evan Poff was fourth and rounding out the scoring for Botetourt were Carter Hudson in seventh, freshman Rye Jackson in ninth and Cole Stetler in 11th place. Andres Hernandez was 13th, Arun Hajra was 15th and Jacob Hodnett was 16th.

The Cavaliers are back in action on Thursday with a race at Northside. James River was off last week but will return to action today at Alleghany.
