The Lord Botetourt soccer team came from behind to pull out a 2-1 win over Salem Monday in Daleville.

The game was scoreless at the half with both teams having opportunities to score. Then Salem struck first in the second half, taking a 1-0 lead in the first four minutes of play.

The Cavaliers weren’t discouraged. Will Hall found the back of the net with 12 minutes left in the game to tie things up at 1-1 and the momentum swing toward LB was noticeable. With about three minutes to go Chase Peery took a throw in from the sideline and found Dylan Salvi on the back post. Salvi sealed the deal for the Cavaliers and the defense kept the Spartans off the board for the remainder of play and a big non-district win.

With the win LB improved to 9-3-2 overall. The Cavaliers were 6-2 in district play after shutting out Northside, 3-0, in the Kevin Boeren Memorial Game last week, honoring a former player from the Class of 2016 who passed away.

In the first two minutes Peery found the back of the net to make it 1-0. LB held strong the first half and right before the halftime whistle Dylan Salvi netted the second goal to make it 2-0. Northside came out firing in the second half but Botetourt’s defense stayed strong. The final goal of the match was from Cadyn Bowles off a penalty kick for the 3-0 win.

LB was scheduled to host Franklin County on Tuesday and Friday the Cavs are home again to meet Staunton River.
