The Lord Botetourt golfers combined to shoot a score of 310 at the Ole Monterey course in Roanoke last week to pass Franklin County in the Blue Ridge District golf standings. Cavalier Ashton Harper is the individual leader after two rounds.

Franklin County held a 12-stroke edge after the first round at Copper Cove, but LB outshot the Eagles by 18 at Ole Monterey, 310-328. That gave the Cavs a six-stroke edge, 630-636, heading into this week’s round at the Botetourt Golf & Swim Club, hosted by LB. That match was Tuesday, but results were too late for publication.

Botetourt’s Harper was medalist at Ole Monterey, going under 70 for the second straight district match. He shot a four-under-par 67 at the Roanoke course to dominate the day, as Sam Fansler of Franklin County was next with a 77, followed by Michael Pankey of Northside with 78.

Botetourt’s next best score was 80 by Hunter Duncan, followed closely by Tyler Meade at 81 and Xavier Shelton at 82. Nick Messenger had 89 and Cadyn Bowles shot 93.

Teamwise, William Byrd was third with a 344 and Northside was a stroke behind at 345, and they’re also third and fourth in total score after two rounds. Staunton River shot 438 and host William Fleming had just two players.

After this week’s round at the BG&SC, the BRD tour will go to Hanging Rock in Roanoke County for a match hosted by Northside next Tuesday, August 30.
