The Lord Botetourt boys’ basketball team competed in the two-day Titan Basketball Invitational at Hidden Valley High School on Dec. 19 and 20 and came in second.
LB drew Abingdon in the first round of action and took a 62-52 win. Landon Hayes led LB with 16 points and five rebounds while Brady Kish scored 11, and Landen Gray had nine points.
“Our players did a good job of following the game plan,” said LB coach Josh Aliveto. “We felt like we could create some turnover opportunities and ultimately win that category. We also achieved our goal for free throw attempts by a substantial margin. However, we still need to convert at a higher percentage.”
Botetourt played undefeated host Hidden Valley in the championship game and lost 80-26 to a strong Titan team.
“We found ourselves in a deep hole quick and struggled to find our rhythm on either ends of the court,” said Aliveto. “I need to do a better job of preparing the guys on the back end of consecutive nights.”
Hayes had 10 points to lead the Cavs as they fell to 2-6 on the season. LB will return to the court Jan. 2 at Abingdon. The jayvee game will tip-off at 3:30 p.m. with the varsity to follow.
