The Region 3D baseball championship game is scheduled for Thursday and at press time the Lord Botetourt Cavaliers were hoping to be in it.
Botetourt was scheduled to play a Region 3D semifinal on Tuesday against Abingdon High in Abingdon. If the Cavaliers won they would play the winner of the other semifinal game between Northside and Cave Spring. If LB is in the championship game it will be moved to a Roanoke Valley location rather than the previously designated location of Abingdon.
Lord Botetourt hosted Alleghany in the Region 3D opener last week and took a 9-2 win. Botetourt broke open a close game with six runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by two-RBI doubles by both Patrick Kepler and Hunter Duke.
Kepler and Duke also split time on the mound. Kepler pitched the first four and two thirds innings and picked up the win, fanning four and allowing just four hits. Duke came in with the Cavs leading 3-2 and shut the door on the Mountaineers over the final two and a third innings. He struck out three while allowing two hits.
Caleb Franklin blasted his team-leading fourth home run in the win. Kepler and Meade Mayo had two hits each as LB improved to 16-4 on the season
