Cecil Carson Blankenship, 74, of Daleville, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2022 at his home following a long illness.
Cecil was born in Roanoke November 17, 1947 and lived in Botetourt County for 36 years. He served in The United States Army and retired from Canatal Steel. Cecil attended St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, enjoyed Harley Davidsons and the Redskins, and was a member of the Liars Club.
He was preceded in death by his father, Otis Carson Blankenship; father-in-law, Jessie Dodd; brother-in-law, Steve Roberts; and sister-in-law, Alice Inge.
Cecil is survived by his wife of 40 years, Linda Dodd Blankenship; daughters: Jessica (Ian) Graham of Botetourt and Amanda (Jamie) Dillard of Troutville; grandchildren: Hannah Graham, Anthony Foster, Sara Foster, Kinley Graham, and Abby Dillard; his mother, Joanna Bryant of Daleville; mother-in-law, Martha Dodd of Roanoke; brother-in-law, John (Kristine) Dodd of Pueblo, Colo.; sisters-in-law, Becky Roberts of Roanoke and Diana (William) Fulton of Boyce, Va.; his rescue dog and loyal companion, Jackson; and many other loving family and friends.
Cecil’s family would like to extend thanks to Good Samaritan Hospice and Blue Ridge Cancer Center for their excellent care and support during his illness.
A celebration of Cecil’s life was held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 13 at Rader Funeral Home, Daleville with Pastor Terry Clark officiating. Burial with full military honors was in Godwin Cemetery. Friends were received at the funeral home 2-5 p.m. June 12.
