Historic Fincastle, Inc. will be hosting the fourth in a series of “Celebrating Fincastle’s Historic Churches – 2024” on Sunday, September 29 at 4 p.m. It will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 111 S. Roanoke Street, Fincastle, in the sanctuary.
The history of the church will be given by the Rev. Willis Logan. St. Mark’s is the oldest “congregation” in Fincastle, counting when it was part of the Anglican Church of England. The music will be performed by two of the children’s choirs of the Botetourt Music Academy (BMA). The BMA began in the fall of 2021 with a grant from the National Episcopal Church’s Roanridge Grant. This grant supports long-lasting projects in rural areas that will benefit the broader community. Though sponsored by the Episcopal Church and rehearsals are at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Fincastle, BMA is simply an outreach for the community at large, regardless of school system or faith. BMA is under the direction of Anna Preston.
Two of the choirs will be performing on September 29: the Piccoli Choir (ages 5-7) and the Cantabile Choir (ages 8-12). They will be celebrating music that has honored churches for centuries.
All are invited for an afternoon of history and music. A love offering will be received to help support this musical program.
