At 128 pounds, eighth grader Nate Stewart completed a perfect 15 – 0 undefeated season and was garnered the 2022 Norseman Champion after defeating Ben Franklin’s Kaden Altice with a 6-0 decision in the championship match. Stewart entered the day seeded first in the tournament and he amassed two pins in the first two matches by defeating Joshua Blankinship from Ben Franklin Middle School and securing a win by fall against Julian Morton of Andrew Lewis Middle School.
Stewart squared up against Glenvar Middle School’s Cale Vaughan in the semi-final match and won narrowly by decision with a 4-2 victory. The finals were set with a heated rematch between Stewart and Altice. Stewart defeated Altice earlier in the year with a 4-2 victory and Altice was looking to even the score. Stewart secured several takedowns and near fall points without giving up any points to secure the 6-0 shutout victory.
Other team members earning fourth place medals were 84-pounder Silas Witson, 91-pound Xander Carlough, 136-pound Efraim Echavarria and heavyweight Davis Wise.
