There’s one going out and one coming in for the Three Rivers District next year.
The Virginia High School League Executive Committee officially approved the mid-cycle alignment plan for 2025-26 and 2026-27 last week and a few local schools will be affected. Alleghany High will be moving from the Three Rivers District to the Shenandoah District, while Martinsville High is moving from the Piedmont into the Three Rivers.
Most of the schools moving classifications or districts aren’t in the Roanoke Valley, or districts our local teams play in. Three schools are moving from Class 5 to 6. John Champe, who has been in Region 4D with Salem, is moving from Class 4 to 5. Two schools are going from 3 to 4 and one from 1 to 2.
Five schools, none from around here, are dropping from Class 6 to 5. Louisa County is moving from 5 to 4, two schools will go from 3 to 2 and two, including Riverheads, will move from 2 to 1.
Five schools are changing districts, including the two previously mentioned regarding the Three Rivers District. Rockbridge County, who was in the Blue Ridge a few years ago, is now moving from the Valley District to the Shenandoah.
