The Lord Botetourt wrestlers will be in Christiansburg this weekend for the Region 3D tournament.
The tournament will begin Friday and continue through conclusion on Saturday.
The top four wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the Class 4 state tournament in Salem the
following weekend, February 21 and 22.
The Cavaliers finished the season strong, winning the Blue Ridge District championship, and hope to
send a bunch of wrestlers to the state. Botetourt will have to wrestle well in a region that is
considered one of the toughest.
“We wrestle in one of the hardest regions in the entire state of Virginia,” said coach Chuck Burton.
“Of the six classes in the state, I would say that Class 3 is one of the top two in the state in terms of
talent, depth, and great programs.
“Our kids will have to wrestle very well to get out of our region and to the state tournament.
Ultimately in wrestling, and in my program, I’ve never put an emphasis on winning. The emphasis is
on competing, learning, and growing. Winning takes care of itself if we take care of the things we
can control. If our kids show up and wrestle the way they are capable of, and control what they can
control, I think they’ll have a good outcome.”
