Church News and Easter Services for April 16 edition

Ebenezer UMC bake sale Saturday

An Easter bake sale will be held at the Virginian Markette on Rt. 11, north of Troutville, on Saturday, April 19, beginning at 8 a.m. The sale will have baked goods, homemade Easter eggs and hot dogs. It is being held by Ebenezer United Methodist Church.

 

Virginia Presbyterian Easter services

A Maundy Thursday service, which will include Holy Communion and Tenebrae, will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 17 at Virginia Presbyterian Church. The Easter Sunday service will be held at 9:30 a.m. April 20.

All are welcome. The church is located at 918 Pico Road, Buchanan.

 

Lapsleys Run Easter services

Lapsleys Run Baptist Church will have Easter services on Sunday, April 20. The Easter Sunrise Service begins at 7:30 a.m. with breakfast after the service. There also will be an Easter egg hunt. Everyone is invited to these and all services at Lapsleys Run Baptist Church, 608 Zion Hill Road, Fincastle.

 

Troutville Baptist Easter fun day

Troutville Baptist Church is having an Easter fun day and egg hunt from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 19. Come at 11 a.m. and enjoy fun games with great prizes, followed by a free hot dog lunch at the shelter and the egg hunt at noon. Children also can register for Easter basket giveaways.

 

First Baptist of Fincastle Easter egg hunt

First Baptist Church of Fincastle, located at 6529 Blue Ridge Turnpike, is having an Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 19, at 12 noon. Refreshments will be served directly afterward in the fellowship hall. Everyone is invited.

 

Buchanan Community Sunrise Service

The Buchanan Community Sunrise Service will be held at the pavilion in Fairview Cemetery on Sunday, April 20 at 7 a.m.  Leonard Southern of Lithia Baptist will bring the message and David Austin of Lithia United Methodist will lead music. A free pancake breakfast in the fellowship hall of Buchanan Baptist Church will follow the service.

 

Glade Creek Baptist Easter services

Glade Creek Baptist will host a Good Friday Service on Friday, April 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the historic chapel.

Glade Creek Baptist will have its annual Easter Sunrise Service on Sunday, April 20 at 7 a.m. in Glade Creek Cemetery

 

Easter activities at St. Mark’s

St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Daleville (19 Cedar Ridge Drive) will be hosting a Community-Wide Easter Event on Saturday, April 19 from 9-11 a.m., the Third Annual Easter Bunny Breakfast. The breakfast, pictures with the Easter Bunny, games and other activities will be from 9-10:30. At 10:30, there will be a free Easter Egg Hunt. Breakfast of pancakes, sausage and baked apples is $12 for 12 years old to adults.  Children 3-11 will be $6 and children under 3 are free. The Easter Egg Hunt is free. Proceeds from the event support the Rise Against Hunger Meal Packing in September. Cloverdale Thrift Store spring sale

Spring has arrived at the Cloverdale Church of the Brethren Thrift Store with a wide selection of new items and brand-name shirts for $1. Donations are greatly appreciated. The store is open Saturdays, 9 to 12.

 

Springwood Baptist Church April events

Springwood Baptist invites everyone to these Easter activities:

Friday, April 18 – Good Friday Service at 6 p.m.

Sunday, April 20 – Easter Sunrise Service at 7 a.m., breakfast to follow; worship at 10 a.m.; no Sunday School

The church is located at 88 Copps Hill Road, Buchanan; Mike Anderson, pastor.

 

Fincastle Presbyterian special services

Fincastle Presbyterian Church has quite a line-up of special events and services in the next several weeks.  All are invited to them:

Thursday, April 17, Maundy Thursday Services, Holy Communion and a Tenebrae Service at 7 p.m.

Sunday, April 20, Resurrection of the Lord/Easter Day, Service at 10:30 a.m.

Wednesday, April 23, Wholeness a Healing service, followed by a light supper. 5 p.m.

 

Woodland Church Easter services

Woodland Church will have a service on Good Friday, April 18 at 7 p.m., a gathering to recognize the infinite sacrifice and indescribable love the Lord demonstrated nearly 2000 years ago. On Easter Sunday, the church will celebrate His resurrection at 10:30 a.m. and have a continental breakfast at 9:30 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend both services.

 

Easter services at Galatia

Galatia EPC, 78 Gala Loop Road, Eagle Rock, invites everyone to the Sunrise Service April 20 at 7 a.m., with a potluck breakfast immediately following the Sunrise Service and Walk to the Cross. The regular worship service will be at 11 a.m. (No Sunday School that Sunday.)  All are encouraged to attend the Easter Sunrise Service and then walk to the cross with flowers (don’t forget to bring flowers). The Rev. Dr. Emily Hook, minister at Galatia EPC, will be conducting the services.

 

Churches holding golf tournament

Springwood Baptist Church and Wheatland Lutheran Church are holding their second annual Feeding Friends Golf Tournament on May 3 at Botetourt Swim & Golf Club. The proceeds from the tournament support both food pantries and the Garden of Grace at Wheatland Lutheran. Eagle Rock Clothes Closet dates

The Eagle Rock Community Clothes Closet at Eagle Rock United Methodist Church, 14565 Church Street, will be open Saturdays, May 3 and 10, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, and Wednesday, May 7, from 5 to 6 p.m.

Available are men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing as well as shoes and some toys at no charge. Bags are provided and patrons are asked to honor the bag limit so as many people as possible can be served. To make donations or volunteer to help with this mission, contact Pastor Ray Sandifer at 540-525-0258.
