Pancake breakfast at Solomon’s Mission Saturday
Solomon’s Mission will hold a pancake breakfast fundraiser on Saturday, April 29 from 7:30-11 a.m.
Breakfast will consist of pancakes, scrambled eggs, choice of bacon or sausage and juice, coffee or water. Cost is $7 for adults and children over 12. Children under 12 eat for $3.
Solomon’s Mission is located at 592 Lowe Street, Buchanan. All proceeds will go toward support of Solomon’s Mission.
Youth celebration at Rising Mount Zion Baptist Church
On Sunday, April 30, at 11 a.m., Rising Mount Zion Baptist Church of Eagle Rock will celebrate youth in the community through word, song and dance. Letitia Marshall of Transforming Word Ministries will speak and there will be displays of talent by other youth. Refreshments will be served following the program. The thrift shop has a large selection of spring and summer clothes for the entire family; also shoes for everyone. Women’s shorts and capri pants are just $1. The shop is open each Saturday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Andrew Chapel Cemetery donations sought
Mowing season is here and donations for the maintenance of the Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery are welcome. Donations may be sent to Andrew Chapel Cemetery Fund at P.O. Box 998, Buchanan, 24066. No contribution is too small and all are greatly appreciated.
Cow Bell Service at Mt. Joy
Mt. Joy Church of the Brethren will hold a Cow Bell Service on Saturday, April 29, at 7 p.m. The church is located 2565 Buffalo Road, Buchanan. Everyone is welcome.
Trinity UMC chicken barbeque
Adult meals are $8 and children’s meals are $5. The adult meal includes half of a chicken, barbeque beans, slaw, drink and dessert. The children’s meal includes a hot dog, barbeque beans, slaw, drink and dessert. Proceeds will support local missions. The church is on Main Street in Buchanan.

Limestone Park in Buchanan will have its annual Beef BBQ from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. April 29. A yard sale will be held from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Spaces are available for $15. Call Tom Moore at 529-5290. A car wash, sponsored by the swim team, starts at 10 a.m.
Wheatland Lutheran Church is having a yard sale from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, rain or shine. There will be clothing, collectibles, housewares, yard items, furniture and maybe some antiques. Food will be available. Proceeds will benefit Youth Programming. The church is located at 1560 Wheatland Road, Buchanan.
St. Mark’s UMC yard/bake sale
St Mark’s United Methodist in Daleville will have a church-wide yard/bake sale in the Family Life Center on Saturday, April 29 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. The St. Mark’s “Mark Out Cancer” Relay For Life team will be offering breakfast and lunch items for purchase.
“Come join us to find that next treasure you have been looking for; enjoy fellowship and food, and take home a homemade bake good for later. We hope to see you there!” a team member said.
Troutville Baptist Church will hold its annual yard sale from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 29. The sale will include clothing, household items, furniture and more. There also will be a hot dog and bake sale. The church is at 5520 Lee Highway in Troutville.
Troutville Assembly of God will have a yard sale and bake sale from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, May 6. Sausage biscuits and coffee will be available for breakfast; and hot dogs, chips and drinks for lunch. This is a fundraiser for Vacation Bible School. The church is at 188 Conner Lane; from Troutville, Rt. 11 to Stoney Battery Road to Conner Lane.
Fincastle UMC chicken barbecue
Fincastle United Methodist Church will have a chicken barbecue dinner Saturday, May 13. It will be held from 4-7 p.m. at the VFW Hall, 4902 Roanoke Road, Daleville. The menu is half a barbecued chicken with Percy Bolton’s special sauce, homemade potato salad, baked apples, roll and drink. Homemade desserts will be available for purchase. Tickets are $10 and must be purchased in advance by calling 473-2969.

Hustle for Hunger 5K Run/Walk for Rise Against Hunger May 6
St. Mark’s United Methodist Church’s Hustle for the Hungry 5K Timed Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, May 6 at 9 a.m. at Greenfield Park, rain or shine.
The goal is to raise enough funds to pack over 31,000 meals for Rise Against Hunger at 29 cents per meal at the church’s annual fall meal packing event. Hustle for the Hungry provides a family-friendly, fun and competitive way to accomplish this goal, while raising awareness of the hungry.
Timing for 5K runners will be provided by Run Roanoke. Individual runner registration is $29, the same amount to pack 100 of the Rise Against Hunger meals. Individual walker registration is $15. Running or walking families are $45.
Individual registrations received at the church by April 20 will include a T-shirt and family registrations received by that date will include two T-shirts. Registrations received after April 20 will not include T-shirts; however, they may be available for purchase on race day for $10.

Hustle of the Hungry is sponsored by the church’s TAME committee, which stands for That All Might Eat. Besides the Rise Against Hunger meal packing event, the TAME committee helps those locally by contributing both food and funds to the Botetourt Food Pantry, the Botetourt Resource Center, and the Roanoke Rescue Mission.
