Free lunch Saturday, suicide prevention presentation Monday at Solomon’s Mission

Solomon’s Mission on Lowe Street in Buchanan will have its Second Saturday Free Lunch on May 8, beginning at 11:30 a.m. The lunch will consist of hot dogs, pork barbecue, chips, dessert and a drink, provided by Valley View Baptist Church.

On Monday, May 10 at 6 p.m., a representative from the Blue Ridge Behavioral Healthcare will give the “Talk Saves Lives” presentation at Solomon’s on how the community can be a partner for suicide prevention. This presentation is sponsored by BAMA (Buchanan Area Ministerial Association) and a light meal will be provided. All are welcome, free of charge. COVID regulations will be followed for the evening. There will be giveaways.

 

Fincastle UMC holding in-person services

Fincastle United Methodist Church is holding in-person services at 10 a.m. Sundays in the sanctuary, 136 S. Church Street, Fincastle. They also are streamed through the website: fincastleumc.org. Go to the “our services” button on home page.

The church will comply with health protocols of state government and the Virginia Methodist Conference, and follow these guidelines for in-person worship:

  • Check in at the door.
  • Non-available seats are marked off with blue tape
  • Family groups sit together. There are a lot of seats. Front rows, the choir loft and the balcony are all available. Ushers can assist.
  • Masks, social distancing and safe personal contact are expected.
  • Enter and exit in an orderly fashion; let people have their space.
  • Enter and be seated. Socializing is best practiced afterwards, outside.

 

Eagle Rock Clothes Closet open dates

The Eagle Rock United Methodist Charge Clothes Closet will be open Wednesday, May 5, 5-6:30 p.m.; Friday, May 7, 5-6:30 p.m.; and Saturday, May 8, 9 a.m.-noon.

The open days have been expanded because the clothes closet has many new clothes, which are free to anyone in need and all are welcome to take advantage of this opportunity. COVID-19 precautions will be in place.

Donations needed for Mt. Bethel Cemetery upkeep

Donations are being accepted for the upkeep of the Mt. Bethel Church of the Brethren Cemetery. The cemetery is located on Rt. 43 (Narrow Passage Road) near Eagle Rock. Mail donations to Etta Alexander P.O. Box 5, Eagle Rock, 24085.

 

Andrew Chapel Cemetery donations requested

Donations are requested for the maintenance of the Andrew Chapel Cemetery in Springwood. Donations are greatly appreciated and may be sent to Andrew Chapel UMC, P.O. Box 998, Buchanan, 24066.
