The annual Cosmopolitan Club Track Meet was held at William Fleming High School last week and the Pulaski County boys and Patrick County girls came up team winners in the Senior Division on a rainy day in Roanoke.

The big meet included a class for middle school teams, a Junior Division for ninth and 10th graders and a Senior Division for juniors and seniors. The top eight finishers in each event scored.

For Lord Botetourt, Dmetri Toliver won the shot put and discus in the Junior Division, tossing the shot 43’ 11” and the discus 120’ 7”. Kendal Howard was second in the discus and Seth Huard was fifth in the shot and seventh in the discus.

Anna Hoover (left) and Katie Cross are neck and neck in the 1,600 meters at the Cosmo.

Rye Jackson won the boys Junior Division 800 in 2:09.39 and took fifth in the 400. Jahki Emmons-Mayo was scored in the long and triple jumps and Tristan Marshall was seventh in the 1,600 as the Cavalier boys took third place in the Junior Division.

In the girls Junior Division Jillian Harris took second in the 300 Hurdles and Nicole Paquette was fifth. Harris also took a fourth in the 100 hurdles while Elizabeth Hodges was fifth in the shot put.

In the Senior Division Elijah Rose was fourth in the 110 hurdles and fifth in the 300 hurdles while Dylan Knick took sixth in both. In the long jump Rose and Knick tied for eighth and Rose also took fifth in the high jump.

Ava Thacker of James River hands off to Naveah VanBuren in the 4×100 relay.

KJ Bratton and Joey Isaacs were fifth and sixth in the Senior 100 meters while Evan Gates was seventh in the 3,200.

In the girls Senior Division Maddie Malue was seventh in the 100 hurdles.

For James River, Alex Eastman took second place in the Senior Division shot put and qualified for the state meet. The boys 4×400 team of Nathan Etzler, Jacob Hill, Chase Minnix and Brian Moran took fourth in the Senior Division.

The girls 4×100 team took a second place in the Junior Division with the foursome of Kelsey Firebaugh, Ripley Barry, Ava Thacker and Naveah VanBuren. VanBuren also took second in both the Junior discus and triple jump while Firebaugh was fifth in the 100.

River was scheduled to run in a meet at home today but that has been cancelled with two of the expected teams dropping out. Lord Botetourt will run at William Byrd today, and both River and LB will compete in a meet at James River on Wednesday, May 18.
