With the new year underway, Botetourt County officials are encouraging local organizations to begin planning recreation projects as the application window opens for the county’s Recreation Incentive Fund, while also asking residents to help shape the future of one of the county’s largest parks.
The Botetourt County Parks and Recreation Department is now accepting applications for the 2025–2026 Recreation Incentive Fund, a matching grant program that supports recreation-related capital improvements throughout the county. Applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on March 1.
The program is open to nonprofit organizations, community service groups, individuals and corporations proposing projects within Botetourt County. Funding is available for up to 50 percent of a project’s total cost, with a maximum award of $15,000.
In recent years, the Recreation Incentive Fund has supported a variety of projects countywide, including playground and court improvements at schools and churches, outdoor fitness equipment for seniors, accessibility-focused recreation features and community amenities such as picnic tables installed by local Scout groups.
County officials say the fund is designed to leverage local investment while expanding recreational opportunities and improving public spaces for residents of all ages.
At the same time, Parks and Recreation is seeking public input on the Greenfield Recreation Park Master Plan, which will guide future improvements and amenities at the popular Daleville-area park.
Residents are invited to share feedback on what they would like to see at Greenfield, whether that includes trails, playgrounds, sports facilities or new recreational features. A community feedback session is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 29, with a drop-in format from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Greenfield Administration Center, located at 57 S. Center Drive in Daleville.
Those unable to attend in person can also participate through an online survey, which county officials say will help ensure the master plan reflects community priorities and needs. The survey can be found here: https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/sv/QdStOlX.
Questions about the Recreation Incentive Fund or requests for a paper application can be directed to Botetourt County Parks and Recreation by email or by calling 540-928-2130. Information on both the grant program and the Greenfield Recreation Park planning process is available through the county’s Parks and Recreation Department.
