Riley Potter was the first Knight girl to finish last week’s cross country race.

Greenfield Recreation Park is the site of a scheduled cross country meet this week with both Lord Botetourt and James River competing. The race was originally scheduled for today but moved to Tuesday due to a threat of storms forecasted for Wednesday.

Last week the James River cross country team ran nine holes as they competed in a race at the Salem Municipal Golf Course. River, Cave Spring and the host Spartans competed on a sunny Salem afternoon.

Salem won the girls race and Cave Spring won the boys race, while River was third in both. Mason Stewart was the top runner for the River boys.

On Saturday the Knights ran in a meet hosted by Alleghany and Isaac Bell led the River boys to a fifth place finish. Only two Knights ran in the girls race and Riley Potter was first across the line.

Lord Botetourt ran a race at Moneta Park last Thursday and the Cavaliers won both the boys and girls races. William Byrd and Northside also competed.

In the girls race LB’s Sydney Vokus won by close to three minutes over the second place girl, Olivia Hurd of William Byrd. Also scoring for the Cavaliers were Lauren Duff in fourth, Sofia Hernandez in seventh, Ella Johnston in eighth, and Brielle Jackson in ninth as LB dominated the top 10.

In the boys race Botetourt runners were one-two-three with Evan Gates, Bryson Cook and Evan Poff. The boys put six in the top eight as sixth through eighth went to Carter Hudson, Cole Stetler and Rye Jackson.
