The Lord Botetourt and James River cross country teams will take the gun for the first time this week as they both compete in season-opening meets.

James River will compete in the “Bengal Clash at the River” at the Smith River Sports Complex in Axton, Va. It’s the ninth annual event and it’s hosted by Bassett High School with a large amount of teams expected.

Lord Botetourt will open this Saturday at Northside High School with the Viking Invitational. There will be 15 schools competing in the varsity races. Joining LB and host Northside will be Bath County, Brookville, Christiansburg, Eastern Mennonite School, Faith Christian School, Hargrave Military Academy, Hidden Valley, Norfolk Collegiate, Pacers Home School, Salem, Southwest Virginia Academy, Staunton River and William Byrd.

On September 10, both LB and James River will run in the Knights Crossing at Green Hill Park in west Roanoke County. Hosted by Cave Spring, it’s one of the largest meets of the entire season.
