Damon Hawkins Pearson, 67, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2021 at LewisGale Medical Center following a hard fought battle with cancer.

Damon was born in Washington, D.C. on March 26, 1954 and lived in Botetourt all of his life.  He was the son of the late Quence Paul and Annie Pauline Hawkins Pearson.

Damon was a courier for Appalachian Power Company for 27 years and retired from Lowe’s after 14 years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Cloverdale (Unity Church), and a lifetime member of Roanoke Jaycees. A 1973 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School, he was a trail-blazing Drum Major. He enjoyed marching band competitions and was a diehard Lord Botetourt sports fan and University of Virginia Cavaliers fan.

In addition to his parents, Damon was preceded in death by his brother, Vernard Pearson, and former wife, Francine Jones Pearson.  He is survived by his long-time partner, Rick Harmon; son, Seth Alexander Pearson of Waukesha, Wis.; daughter and son-in-law Harriet (McCadden) and Mark Marks of Suffolk; a granddaughter, Mariah Marks; his nephew, Ashley Pearson of Philadelphia, Pa.; special friends, Mark Whitley and Roger Bertholf; and sister-in-law, Frieda Weldon of Philadelphia, Pa.

A celebration of Damon’s life will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 24 at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road, Daleville with Roger Bertholf officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Damon’s celebration of life will be livestreamed at www.rader-funeralhome.com/tributes/Damon-Pearson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carolina Crown Inc. (Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps), 227A Main Street, Fort Mill, S.C. 29715; or American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, Okla. 73123.

Online condolences may be made to the family at www.rader-funeralhome.com.
