Mary Ryland Deel, 70, of Fincastle, died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at Lewis-Gale Medical Center.
Born in Roanoke on April 6, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Russell Ryland Deel and Mary Lucy Obenshain Deel. Mary was an active member of Mill Creek Baptist Church where she served as a deacon and was a member of the choir. She was a graduate of Longwood College. Mary was employed at Granite Memorials and later Howells Motor Freight. After retiring, she enjoyed volunteering at Solomon’s Mission, working at Rader Funeral Home, and exercising at the Botetourt Family YMCA.
She is survived by her sister Judy Lee Deel of Fincastle; a nephew, John Russell (Rusty) Alvis and his wife Stephanie; a niece, Jennifer Alvis Perry and her husband Mark; four great-nieces, Morgan Watson and her husband Jacob, Madison Alvis, Marissa Perry, and Isabella Perry; one great-great-niece, Olivia Joy, and one great-great-nephew, Levi Russell, all of Concord, Va. She was preceded in death by her sister, Edith Annette Deel Alvis.
The family received friends at Rader Funeral Home on Sunday, August 4, 2024, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 5, at Mill Creek Baptist Church with internment following in the church cemetery.
