Delegate Terry Austin (37th House District) participated in the historic Fourth of July celebration at Colonial Williamsburg in his capacity as chairman of the Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission (VA250). As Virginia commemorated the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding, Delegate Austin helped oversee the official festivities, which drew an estimated 50,000 to 60,000 visitors from across the Commonwealth and the nation.
The statewide celebration, “America Made in Virginia: 250 Years Together,” was broadcast live nationwide on PBS, showcasing the American Revolution and Virginia’s pivotal role in the birth of the United States. A recording of the broadcast is available at https://www.va250.org/250-years-together.
The celebration featured patriotic ceremonies, historical re-enactments, musical performances, and family activities, highlighting Virginia’s central role in the story of American independence. As chairman of VA250, Delegate Austin collaborated with state leaders, the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, Colonial Williamsburg, and community partners to oversee the day’s historic commemoration and help ensure the success of one of Virginia’s premier America 250 events.
“Virginia is the Mother of Presidents and the Birthplace of American Democracy. It was an honor to help welcome tens of thousands of visitors as we celebrated our nation’s history and the ideals of freedom that continue to unite us,” Austin said. “This Commission is different from others, as we have engaged all of the state of Virginia to participate and create programming for the 250th birthday of our nation. I’d like to thank every local VA250 committee for organizing the July 4th activities that occurred across our Great Commonwealth.“
