Freddie Jay Dudding, affectionately known as “Jay,” passed away on Jan. 18, 2026, in Blue Ridge. He was born on Dec. 11, 1962, in Roanoke.
Jay spent many years working as a truck driver, a career that reflected his independence and love of the open road. Outside of work, he found joy in kayaking, motorcycle riding, and bird watching, appreciating both adventure and the quiet beauty of nature. Jay was a member of Villamont Presbyterian Church, where he found fellowship and spiritual comfort.
He was preceded in death by his father, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Dudding; his mother, Mildred Fralin; and his stepfather, Golden Fralin.
Those left to cherish his memory include his brother, Jack Dudding (Donna); sister, Jill Bird (Mike); nephew, Corey Austin, and great-nephew, Gunner Bastrom; niece, Cristen Austin, and great-nephew, Eli Doss; niece, Alecia Carwile (Clyde), and great-nieces and great-nephew, Cassidey, Chevy, and Cody; niece, Nikki Dudding (Ricky Weeks), and great-nephew, Camden Dudding; along with numerous friends and loved ones who will miss him dearly.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date to be announced.
