The Eagle Rock Ruritan Club Inc. met on April 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Eagle Rock Community Center.  Members enjoyed the meal from Three Li’l Pigs, compliments of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.

The Eagle Rock community has been privileged to have the Mobile Marketplace from Feeding Southwest Virginia visit for the last several months. The Marketplace comes to the Eagle Rock Community Center on the fourth Wednesday of each month between 10 a.m. and noon.  Although this is a big help for senior citizens, everyone is invited to come and shop for fresh, convenient, affordable food for people of Eagle Rock and the surrounding area. The Marketplace accepts debit, credit or SNAP/EBT payments.

Other activities which may be on the horizon include an exercise class sponsored by the “Y,” and a diners’ club sponsored by LOA.

The Blue Ridge Vineyard is scheduled to be open on weekends for the summer. The proceeds will be dedicated to helping folks in Ukraine to take care of their pets.

The members agreed to make some needed repairs and improvements for the upkeep of the Community Center after which time it will re-open for use by the community.

The environment committee, led by Barbara Holaday, announced a litter pickup for Thursday, April 28, at 10 a.m. along Rt. 43 from US 220 back through Eagle Rock to the east sign. Anyone and everyone is invited to help.

Members received the plan for administering scholarships to James River High School seniors in May. The club is also giving financial support to Eagle Rock Elementary School projects. Club members received an invitation to participate in activities at the Eagle Rock Library like the Great Plant Exchange last Saturday.

Three upcoming activities in the Eagle Rock area were announced and everyone is encouraged to participate. On May 2, there will be a Potluck Community Meal at Galatia Church at 12 noon. The church will provide ham biscuits and beverages.  On May 5 at 12 noon at the Eagle Rock Library flagpole, there will be a 15-minute prayer time in observance of The National Day of Prayer. The Northern Botetourt Hymn Sing will be on May 8 at 4 p.m. at Emmanuel Chapel.

The club has recently welcomed Trudy Trammel and Audrey Clark into full membership. St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and Willis Logan, minister, were welcomed as associate members.

The Eagle Rock Ruritan Club meets each third Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. and invites others to consider joining in the efforts to live out the Ruritan Motto of  “Fellowship, Goodwill, and Community Service.”
