Botetourt County voters will soon have the opportunity to participate in early voting for the upcoming June 17 Dual Primary Elections which will determine party nominees for several key offices ahead of the November General Election.
Both the Democratic and Republican Parties of Virginia are conducting state-administered primaries on June 17 to determine their nominees for candidates to be on the November 4 General Election ballot. Although held on the same day, each party’s primary is a separate election with its own ballot. Virginia does not require party registration, so any registered voter may choose to vote in either the Democratic or Republican primary—but not both.
Before checking in at the polling place, Botetourt voters will be asked to indicate which party’s primary they wish to participate in. Listed below are the offices and current candidates on the June 17 ballot:
Republican Party Primary
House of Delegates – 37th District: Terry L. Austin and Austen M. Schwend
Botetourt County Board of Supervisors (Amsterdam District): Dirk B. Padgett and Tim T. Snyder
Botetourt County Board of Supervisors (Buchanan District): Linda M. Rottman and Amy Stinnett White
Note: Only voters registered in the relevant districts are eligible to vote in those races.
Democratic Party Primary
Lieutenant Governor: Levar M. Stoney, Babur B. Lateef, Aaron R. Rouse, Victor R. Salgado, Ghazala F. Hashmi, and Alexander J. Bastani
Attorney General: Shannon L. Taylor and Jay C. Jones
