‘Sundaes on Sunday’ start Sunday in Eagle Rock

The Eagle Rock Fire and Rescue Department is having “Sundaes on Sunday” again this summer. The dates are June 11, July 9, August 13 and September 10 from 3-6 p.m. Twelve toppings, whipped cream and cherries will be available. The members will also be serving hot fudge brownies and banana splits. The first scoop for sundaes is $2, and additional scoops are $1; hot fudge brownies are $5 and banana splits, $6.

 

Coloring time at Resource Center

The Botetourt Resource Center Inc. is offering time and a free place to adults 60 years and older who would like to come and color for an hour on June 5 at 10 a.m.

There is no charge for materials; however, the center asks that you call 254-1468 to leave a reservation by June 2 if you would like to attend.

 

Buchanan Dates To Remember

  • Buchanan Special Events Committee – Join in the planning of upcoming activities on Wednesday, June 14 at 7 p.m. in the meeting room of the Buchanan Town Hall.
  • Buchanan Lions Club – Members of the Buchanan Lions Club meet on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 6pm at the North Star Restaurant. The next meetings are Thursday, June 8 and June 22.  For additional information, or, if you are interested in joining the Lions Club contact Mike Burton at 254-3345.
  • Second Sunday Dinner – Treat dad early to a special dinner in the historic Wilson Warehouse/Community House on Sunday, June  11 from 12 noon until 2 p.m. This Sunday’s meal includes grilled chicken, grilled vegetables, green beans, dinner rolls and choice of dessert. Dine in and carry out are available. Meals are $10 each. For additional information, call 597-2399.•

Third Fridays – Buchanan invites the public to appreciate the simpler things in life— good friends, good food and good times— during Third Fridays Block Party & Cruise In.  The next one is Friday, June 16 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in downtown Buchanan. This month the Buchanan Art Series sponsored by Bank of Botetourt presents Melissa and the Growlers. They will bring their favorite funk, blues and soul tunes to this free concert. Local businesses will also have extended hours and there will be a Community Market. To set up in the market, Call 540-254-1212, ext. 4 for details. There will be a Beer Garden and food. Feel free to enter with food from one of the restaurants.

 

Book talk at Blue Ridge Library

There will be a book talk and signing by George Smith at the Blue Ridge Library on Saturday, June 3, at 11a.m. Smith’s book, “Flying High:  From Pleiku to Chu Lai,” contains stories of his experience as a helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing. Military veterans will receive free copies of the book. The library is located at 28 Avery Row on US 460 about a half mile east of the Bonsack Walmart. Call 928-2900 for directions.

 

‘Gardening with Children’ at Buchanan Library

School is out for the summer and parents are looking for things to do with their children. The Friends of the Buchanan Library is welcoming Debbie Ray, Master Gardener Volunteer, to the Buchanan Library on June 9 at 10 a.m. She will present a program on “Gardening with Children.” Parents and children will learn about the joys of gardening with flowers and vegetables and being outside together. Adults and their children or grandchildren are invited to attend together to this free program. The Buchanan Library is located at 19795 Main Street, 928-3005.
