Fundraiser for traveling teens at Bellacino’s
The public is invited to a Spirit Night fundraiser at Bellacino’s in Daleville on Tuesday, April 30. The fundraiser will benefit local teens who are traveling to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islan this summer with Botetourt Beyond Borders.
Buchanan dates to remember
• Buchanan Community Carnival Raffle Tickets – The Big Prize Raffle Tickets are in. Time to pick up your tickets to sell or time to drop in to the Buchanan Town Hall on Main Street to purchase your tickets for the opportunity to win $5,000 cash as well as many other valuable prizes during the Buchanan Community Carnival.
• Breakfast at the Community House – Enjoy dining in the historic Wilson Warehouse/Community House this Saturday and Sunday, April 27-28. Breakfast on Saturday consists of egg, sausage gravy and biscuits, baked apples, and beverage. Sunday’s menu consists of egg casserole or pancakes with ham, baked apples and beverage. Cost for the meal is $6; children under 12, $3. Proceeds go toward preserving the historic Wilson Warehouse.
• Buchanan Garden Festival –The Town of Buchanan is accepting applications for “garden themed” vendors for the town’s annual Buchanan Garden Festival scheduled for Saturday, May 4. Applications may be downloaded from the town’s website at www.townofbuchanan.com or for additional information, call 254-1212, Ext. 4.
• Buchanan Garden Festival Quick Draw Plein Air Competition – Buchanan’s first Quick Draw Plein Air Competition will be held during the sixth annual Buchanan Garden Festival on Saturday, May 4. The Plein Air, or outdoor, painting competition is open to all artists. Artists in the competition have only two hours to complete their work. During this time, all registered participants will set up using their own supplies including paint, board and easel to paint in the historic Wilson Warehouse Gardens or adjacent Buchanan Town Park. After the paintings are completed, they will be displayed on easels under the Show Tent from 12:30-3:30 p.m. During this time, the public will vote for their favorite painting to win the People’s Choice Award. Prizes will be awarded in the following categories; First Place Judge’s Award – $100, People’s Choice – $50, Children’s Show – $25. Registration for the Quick Draw Plein Air Competition is open with costs of $10 for adults, and $5 for children 12 and under. Registrations are due by Monday, April 29. Fincastle Library’s Spring Fair
The Fincastle Library will be sponsoring a unique opportunity to shop and support young local talent.
The Spring Fair will feature young local artists, crafters, bakers, and builders. They will be displaying and selling their creative works at the library just in time for Mother’s Day.
Items will include: pottery, paintings, soaps, jewelry, craft Items, and baked goods.
The event will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 4. Admission is free. For more information, call the library at 928-2700.
Vendors sought for Eagle Rock craft sale
The Eagle Rock Library is seeking craft vendors for its Spring/Mother’s Day Craft and Plant Sale on May 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Reserve a spot for $10 by calling the library at 928-2800 or email jduval@botetourtva.gov.
Buchanan Library Friends plan book sale
The upcoming used book sale held by the Friends of the Buchanan Library will be during two weekends this spring. The first will be held Friday, April 26, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and Saturday, April 27, 9-4. This weekend event coincides with Buchanan’s Civil War History Weekend. The following weekend, Saturday May 4, 10-4, the sale will be held during Buchanan’s Garden Festival.
The sale will take place in the basement of the Buchanan Library with an entrance from Lowe Street. The Friends are still accepting donations of hardbacks, paperbacks, VHSs and CDs; no encyclopedias, medical, textbooks, or magazines. All proceeds will go to the Buchanan Library to support children’s and adult programs, and to supplement the needs of the library to better serve the patrons and community. Game Night May 17 at Buchanan Library
Friends of the Buchanan Library will host a Game Night on May 17, from 5-8 p.m., in conjunction with the Special Events Committee’s Third Friday Cruise-In. Bring a favorite game and a snack to share. Don’t like card or board games? The Friends will have a couple tables set with jigsaw puzzles, too. Or just enjoy a snack while and socialize with friends and neighbors. Bingo fundraiser for Mike Walters
Come out for an afternoon of fun and Pampered Chef Bingo to benefit Mike Walters of Buchanan at the Buchanan Volunteer Firehouse on May 25. Mike was injured in an accident in March and is in need of financial help.
The event kicks off with vendor shopping at 3 p.m. and bingo starting promptly at 5. A spaghetti dinner is available for purchase and must be preordered by May 20. Dinner will be served from 4 -5. A bingo ticket plus dinner is $30 by May 20. Bingo ticket without dinner is $20 in advance and $25 the day of the bingo. Purchase tickets by May 10 and receive an extra cover-all card.
