Get ready to see what the scenic Upper James River has to offer. Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 28, to participate in a tour of a protected riparian farm, a picnic lunch and a leisurely float on the river.

Participants will gather at the farm in northern Botetourt County at 10 a.m. for a hayride tour followed by lunch and then a beginner-friendly paddle lasting an hour or two. The tour/float is limited to 30 people and is free of charge. A short waiting list will be compiled in the event the maximum number is reached.

This event is sponsored by the Upper James Resource Conservation & Development (UJRC&D) Council through a grant from Virginia DEQ (Chesapeake Bay Watershed River Roundtables) and is hosted by Mountain Castles Soil and Water Conservation District (mountaincastles.org), in partnership with Valley Conservation Council (valleyconservation.org).

To reserve a spot, email your name and contact info (address/phone number/number participating) to Tim Miller at Mountain Castles SWCD (trailrunner95@gmail.com) Once you’ve registered, you’ll be sent details including the address of the farm and float options available (most likely canoe or single kayak).
