Lindsey Fenster of Buchanan graduated from the University of Georgia in May with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. She graduated Summa cum Laude, with Honors, with a major in animal science, a minor in history and certificates in Certified Personal and Organizational Leadership and Arch Ready Professionalism.
While at UGA, Lindsey served as an Ambassador for the College of Agriculture, worked as an orderly at the UGA College of Veterinary Medicine and was a teaching assistant in multiple classes for the Animal and Dairy Science department.
Lindsey conducted research in the lab of Dr. Alex Stelzleni and presented her work entitled “The Evaluation of Warm-Season Annual Grasses for Southeastern Forage-Finished Beef Systems” at the UGA honors symposium. She also studied abroad in Uraguay, where she toured multiple farms and learned about the economics of grass-fed beef. Selected as a Ratcliffe Scholar during her third year at UGA, Lindsey used the associated scholarship funds to help support an internship at Smithfield Farms last summer.
She was a member of the Blue Key Honor Society and was selected as the outstanding junior and senior in the Animal and Dairy Science department. This year she received the Presidential Award of Excellence, which is awarded to the most outstanding student in each college. To recognize this achievement, Lindsey was accompanied by Dean Sam Pardue to lunch at the President’s Mansion.
This fall, Lindsey will continue her education at the UGA College of Veterinary Medicine and plans to pursue an emphasis in food animal medicine. She was awarded the Leary Family Scholarship, and earned additional scholarships through the College of Veterinary Medicine. Lindsey graduated in 2015 from James River High School; while in high school she was active in both FFA and 4-H programs.
