HFI’s Fincastle Festival returns Sept. 22 to celebrate first festival 50 years ago

Do you remember the first festival that was held November 1968 on the grounds of Breckinridge Elementary School?

Dot Blanton, and members of the Big Spring Garden Club, along with local residents, were instrumental in organizing this first festival.  Historic Fincastle, Inc. (HFI) was chartered around that same time.

So, do you remember:

  • The Garden Club Flower Show in the school gym?
  • The Young Farmer’s chicken BBQ?
  • The quilt shows?
  • The Country Store in the Oldsmobile garage?
  • The bake sales, pork rinds and hot dogs?
  • The vintage fashion show?
  • The car shows and tractors?
  • The square dancers?
  • The music performers?
  • The wonderful artists and crafters over the years?

These are just some of the wonderful memories from the last 50 years since that first festival.

To celebrate these memories, HFI will be hosting a one-day commemorative festival on Saturday, Sept.  22, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Those who have memories to share or can scan favorite photos are asked to do so and email them to HFI at historicfincastle@hotmail.com.
