The regular monthly meeting of the Botetourt County Breast Cancer Support Group will be held on Tuesday, May 2, at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Fincastle United Methodist Church, Family Life Center, 137 S. Church Street, Fincastle.
The scheduled speaker for last month was ill and was unable to speak so he will speak at this meeting. The speaker will be Andrew E. Fintel, D.O. at Blue Ridge Cancer Care Physicians. He is a graduate of University of Mary Washington and Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine. His residency was completed at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio and he completed a fellowship at University of Tennessee/West Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center. His wife, Amy, is a local physician and they are parents to three children. his hobbies include spending time with family outdoors, hiking, hunting and fishing. His father is a local oncologist and he grew up in Roanoke with his three brothers.
All women who have experienced or who are facing breast cancer are encouraged to attend the meetings whenever possible. The group’s Relay for Life team, Jackie’s Girls, will be participating on a limited basis in the Relay this year. This will be their 17th year with the Botetourt Relay for Life. The first year the team name was Gibson Girls, the second year it was The Survivors, and since 2003 the team name has been Jackie’s Girls in honor of their founder, Jackie White. During this time the team has raised over $100,000.00 for the American Cancer Society.

• Friday, May 19, Relay for Life, Daleville Town Center, 90 Town Center Street, Daleville, 6-11 p.m. In the meantime, members of Jackie’s Girls will be selling raffle tickets for a beautiful queen size quilt that will be raffled off at 10 p.m.
