Families are invited to the Seventh Annual Fishing Rodeo sponsored by the Buchanan Moose Lodge and Grover Gaming on Saturday, May 8. The event begins at 11 a.m., with lunch at noon, at Steve Thrasher’s in Springwood.
The free lunch will consist of hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and drinks.
Activities will include fishing, hayrides, sack races, a 50-50 drawing and raffle tickets. Each child will receive a door prize. Those attending will need to fill out a form.

Proceeds will benefit 12-year-old Evan Groves of Covington. He was born with a rare skin condition called epidermolysis bullosa, which causes wounds on his body that look like third degree burns. His airway has closed and he now has a tracheotomy for breathing and a feeding tube for nutrition. He is blind in his left eye from scar tissue. He does not get around well due to blisters on his feet and is in a wheelchair. He also has dental issues. Evan goes to Roanoke and UVA monthly for treatments and to Cincinnati every six months to a clinic that specializes in the disease.
Admission to the fishing rodeo is $30 for the first child and $20 for additional siblings.
Those who cannot attend but wish to help Evan may donate directly to a bank account at Highland Bank in Covington under the Evan Groves Benefit Fund.
Directions: From Rt. 43, turn at James River High School onto Springwood Road. Cross over the James River bridge and look for Fishing Rodeo signs approximately a quarter-mile ahead on the right. Turn onto Cedar Lane and follow signs to the pond.
