Botetourt 4-H Livestock Club active in 2023

By Tyler Painter, Botetourt 4-H Extension Agent

The Botetourt 4-H Livestock Club members have been busy over the last couple of weeks, competing at multiple judging competitions.

They first competed in the Shenandoah Valley Meats Evaluation Contest on Saturday, January 14. Members placed 3rd, 6th, 7th, 9th, and 14th in the individual placements and those members made up two separate teams. We placed 2nd and 5th in the team competitions.

On Monday, January 16, club members participated in the Blue Ridge Stockman’s Competition, ranking them 7th overall in the team standings. We are extremely proud of these youth and their successes, and appreciate our volunteer club leader for her time and effort in preparing these members.

On Friday, February 17, Botetourt County 4-H members and volunteers will take part in the annual 4-H and FFA Youth Expo at Lord Botetourt High School, taking place from 5-7 p.m. As a part of the annual event, we will be hosting our 4-H Share the Fun Talent Show at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Registrations for the talent show are currently being accepted for any Botetourt youth between the ages of 9-19 that would like to participate.

Any youth that is interested in participating can contact Tyler Painter, 4-H Extension Agent, at 540-928-3210 for more details. Registrants would need to complete the online registration and sign up for a mandatory audition to be held on Monday, February 6 at LBHS. For more information on this or any of the programs that Botetourt 4-H offers, please feel free to give us a call.
