Football practice for Lord Botetourt and James River High Schools officially began last Thursday with the fall season fast approaching.
Lord Botetourt’s season will begin sooner than most. For the second year in a row the Cavaliers will play a “week zero” game on Saturday, August 22, which is a week sooner than most everyone else in the state. The Cavaliers will play Rye Cove High School at Emory & Henry University’s field at 7 p.m. on a Saturday.
With that in mind, the Cavaliers will have to rev it up a little quicker under first year coach Nick Leftwich. LB had a Saturday morning practice last weekend and will scrimmage this Saturday, August 8, against New Kent High School. That will be held at Hampden-Sydney College and begin at 10 a.m. The Cavs will have an intra-squad scrimmage the weekend before their opener.
James River High will practice from 4-8 p.m. the rest of this week and won’t scrimmage until Friday, August 14, when the Knights will host Rockbridge County at 6 p.m. The Knights will host Nelson County on August 21 at 6 p.m. before their season opener on August 28 against Auburn at 7 p.m. River’s first two games are at home, with Blacksburg coming to Springwood on the second week of the season on September 4.
