Attendees of old Troutville High School have the opportunity to gather and share memories on October 6 at Troutville Town Park.

The reunion, weather permitting, will take place from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. with light refreshments provided. Sandra Tate, a member of the last graduating class of Troutville High, has worked with the Town of Troutville to coordinate the upcoming reunion. She grew up off of Coaling Road and attended the Cloverdale School prior to Troutville High.

“I started (at Troutville High) in 1954 in my eighth grade class,” Tate said in a recent interview. “There were 68 eighth graders. Twenty-six graduated in 1959. I just would like to see us get together and meet in the park where we all played football, basketball, gym – that was our athletic field. I would like to see us get together while we still have a memory and someone to listen to it.”

According to Roanoke Libraries, the Troutville community built its first high school in 1905 that consisted of a two-story, four-room school. The first school burned in 1913, a new school was then soon built that served as a combined elementary and high school until 1927.

A new high school was constructed in 1927 and remained Troutville High School until 1959. Students in the Troutville area attended Lord Botetourt High School thereafter.

This event isn’t just for former graduates, but for all former students who may have attended at some point.

For questions, contact Sandra Tate at 540-366-6224 by September 16.
