During a work session at the May Botetourt County Board of Supervisors meeting, the board voted to move up maintenance on Fringer Trail, located in Buchanan, on the FY24-29 Secondary System Six-Year Plan (SSYP), which was originally proposed during a 2012 board meeting.
The plan had Fringer Trail set for repair in 2028, behind other areas, including Back Creek Lane (first on VDOT’s priority list). A public comment at the beginning of Tuesday’s meeting heard a Buchanan woman who lives on the road comment on the need for the road’s upkeep and surface maintenance. She noted that “a huge increase in daily traffic” causes a large amount of dust that has steadily increased over the last 20 years and prevents residents and drivers from opening any windows along the road.
According to the county, the Board of Supervisors still has to hold the public hearing in June on the Six-Year Plan before an “official vote” on the plan can take place. Moving up the Fringer Trail maintenance project was just a recommendation to the priority list. This doesn’t “finalize” the Six-Year Plan.
