The Lord Botetourt girls are leading the Blue Ridge District after winning three tennis matches last week. The girls are the only team who has not lost a match in the district.
Botetourt opened last week with a 9-0 win over William Fleming at Hollins University. Meredith Claterbaugh won her first match as a seeded player in singles this season, beating Fleming’s number six girl 8-0. Zoe Brown and Reagan Meade continued their good play at number one doubles and won 8-0.
On Thursday in Moneta the girls took down Staunton River, 8-1. Kadence Overstreet won in a match tiebreaker at third singles, 7-4.
“We were playing eight-game pro-sets and Kadence was down 7-4 and came back and won in the tiebreaker,” said LB coach Sam Belcher. “It was an awesome comeback.”
LB’s number one seed, Meade, beat Staunton River’s top seed, 8-4. Last year Reagan lost to the same girl, 8-0.
Friday the girls won at Northside, 9-0. Kennedy Dorsey played at third singles and won 8-0 and Elaina Brown played at the six seed and won 8-1.
The boys also played those three teams last week and won two of three. Fleming edged the Cavaliers, 5-4, but Botetourt bounced back to beat Staunton River, 6-3, and Northside, 8-1.
This week both teams were scheduled to play Franklin County on Tuesday. On Thursday the Cavaliers will take on Christiansburg in non-district matches with the girls at Christiansburg and the boys at Hollins.
