Practices are now under way for all fall high school sports in Botetourt County, and the golf teams will be the first to open their regular season schedule.

The Lord Botetourt golf team was scheduled to open the season Tuesday with a Blue Ridge District “mini match” at Ole Monterey, hosted by William Fleming. The Cavs are at Hanging Rock on Thursday for a mini match hosted by Northside, beginning at 1 p.m.

On Monday the Cavaliers will participate in the Heritage Invitational at London Downs in Lynchburg. That will also be the first action for the James River golfers. In addition, both River and LB will be participating in the Bob McLelland Metro Tournament, with the second round at the Botetourt Golf and Swim Club on August 9. The first round is at Blue Hills on August 8.

Volleyball practice is now under way for both schools. Lord Botetourt, the defending Class 3 state champion, will participate in the Rockbridge Jamboree on August 11. LB will host a scrimmage with Brookville and Hidden Valley on Wednesday, Aug. 15.

James River’s first volleyball scrimmage is on Monday, Aug. 13, at home with Bath County. The Knights will host a jamboree in Springwood on Saturday, Aug. 18.
