Dorothy (Dot) Anne Thompson Greenway, 88, of Troutville, died early in the morning on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, with a smile.
She was born on September 5, 1934, to the late Samuel Lawrence Thompson Sr. and Bessie Margaret Wood Thompson. She was also preceded in death by her husband of nearly 61 years, Maynard L. Greenway; her sisters, Hazel Adkins Bayne and Helen Thompson; and brother, Samuel Lawrence Thompson Jr.
Dot is survived by her daughters, Fern Holliday, Donna David, Paula Hudson (Greg), and Nita Eldred; four grandchildren, Brandon David (Nicole), Jamie Hudson, Keiana Eldred, and Kaylee Eldred; and four great-grandchildren, Gavin Hudson, Kyra Wright, Eason David, and Emory David. She is also survived by a sister, Elsie Guilliams, and many nieces and nephews.
Dot graduated from Fincastle High School, worked for the former Ikenberry & Garst Grocery, and provided childcare for numerous families spanning a 25-year period. She was Aunt Dot and Granny Dot to many and continued to think of each one as “her kids.”
Dot’s family would like to thank Carilion Hospice for their care and attention during Dot’s care. They are phenomenal, each individually and as a team.
As Dot requested, a private burial was held on Monday, July 31, 2023, in Daleville Cemetery with her immediate family present. In lieu of flowers, you may consider a donation in her memory to the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.Oakeys.com.
Arrangements were by Oakey’s North Chapel, (540) 362-1237.
