Rumors surrounding the closing of Greenwood Restaurant in Troutville have swirled about the county. As of Monday morning, the restaurant believes there is a prospective buyer on the horizon.

As of the date of this publication, the restaurant will remain open past the June 19 date of closure; however, if the sale cannot be finalized, the restaurant will close.

Since 1952, the Greenwood Restaurant in Troutville has served their famous pan-fried chicken and “hot beef” to customers from Botetourt County and beyond. The COVID-19 pandemic hit restaurants hard. Many restaurants closed their doors for periods. Greenwood was one of the few that remained operable for take-out orders despite being unable to serve their customers indoors. Still, although patrons continued to support Greenwood, the lockdown resulted in the diner reorganizing their hours of operations.

“Thank you to all who have supported us through the years and especially through this last week,” a recent Facebook post stated on behalf of the restaurant. “Please keep your fingers crossed and continue to support us, either to the end or to the new beginning!”

Greenwood remains open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday through Saturday. For more information, visit Greenwood Restaurant’s Facebook page.
