There are a number of Halloween activities this weekend in Botetourt, from community events in Fincastle, Troutville, Eagle Rock and Buchanan to many church-sponsored alternatives on Halloween night. Among them are:

Fincastle Halloween Parade Oct. 31

The Fincastle Halloween Parade will take place on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 6:30 p.m.  Costumes are encouraged.

Haunted House in Buchanan Friday

The Buchanan Moose Lodge is planning a Haunted House for children from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30 at the lodge.

Troutville Rescue Halloween party

If you’re looking for a fun and safe way for the kids to spend Halloween, look no further than the Troutville Rescue Squad. The squad will host a Halloween party on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 6-8 p.m. at the crew hall. There will be plenty of fun and games, a costume contest at 8 p.m., and lots of candy.

Halloween Party at Eagle Rock

The annual Halloween Party will be held at the Eagle Rock Fire House on Saturday, Oct. 31. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be served, beginning at 5 p.m, along with baked goods. Bingo begins at 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Eagle Rock Volunteer Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary.

Annual Halloweenies at Fincastle United Methodist Church

Halloween, Saturday, Oct. 31, will see the return of Halloweenies. That is the tongue-in-cheek label for the hordes of kids and tired parents who will find their way to Fincastle United Methodist’s Family Life Center that evening. They will be in search of the free hot dogs, treats and other goodies available that night.

The Town of Fincastle holds its Halloween Parade that evening which allows the costumed crowd to parade around town to be seen by assembled parents, neighbors and townsfolk. That event has been held for years and is very popular but it begins at 6:30 p.m., so many families may be skipping dinner.

Halloweenies runs from 6-8 p.m. and affords the children and their families a chance for a quick meal before or after the parade. All are welcome to drop by, even if only for a snack. Be sure to register for the door prizes.

Halloweenies takes place on the lower level of the Family Life Center, located at the corner of Academy and Church Streets in Fincastle. The restrooms are also located on the lower level in case hunger is not the only need at that point.  “Your neighbors at Fincastle UMC are looking forward to your visit this Halloween.  Drop by and re-supply!” a church spokesman said.

Octoberfest at Fincastle Baptist Church

Octoberfest is coming to Fincastle Baptist Church on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 6-8 p.m.  All are invited to this free community outreach event. There will be games, Moon Jumps, Emergency Response vehicles on display, blood pressure checks, The Hay Maze, hayride, popcorn, cotton candy, refreshments, and lots of candy. The event will be held at Fincastle Baptist Church, 7330 Roanoke Road, Fincastle, and will go on rain or shine.  Make plans to attend this free annual event.

New Beginnings holding Fall Harvest Party

New Beginnings Assembly of God will hold a “Fall Harvest Party” for all ages from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31. There will be hot dogs with all the fixings, roasting marshmallows around a campfire, games, prizes and candy. No Halloween costumes, please. The church is located at 1317 Narrow Passage Road (Rt. 43). For more information, call Pastor Marla Moore at 254-1488.

Jesus-Fest Halloween alternative at Faith Community

Faith Community Fellowship Church, 592 Lowe Street, Buchanan, is hosting a “Jesus-Fest” from 6-9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31 at the church.

The free Halloween alternative is open to all and will include games, food, candy and fun. For more information, call 521-1908.

Multi-church Trunk-or-Treat in Troutville

A multi-church Trunk-or-Treat event will be held in Troutville on Saturday, Oct. 31.  Participating are Troutville Baptist Church, Troutville Church of the Brethren and Living Hope Fellowship. Parents are invited to bring their children for a fun evening of games, food, drinks and fellowship in a save, Christian environment. Treats will be passed out from the decorated trunks.
