There seems to be some confusion in the community, The Fincastle Herald Editor Ed McCoy explained.

The Fincastle Herald has no affiliation with the Botetourt View that announced it is ceasing publication this week.

The Roanoke Times published the Botetourt View and the weekly publication is closing, according to an announcement by BH Media Group that owns the daily newspaper.

The Fincastle Herald is the oldest continuously operated businesses in Botetourt County, dating to 1866. “We’re very much alive and well, and will continue to publish each Wednesday, year-round,” McCoy said. “Any confusion among the public apparently stems from folks just not knowing the ownership dynamics of the two publications. Botetourt View and its predecessors were published by the daily. We have never had any ownership, reporting or printing interest in those publications.”

The Fincastle Herald office is on Roanoke Street, Fincastle, and its printing facility is located on West Main Street, Salem, where it has been for decades.

It has sister community newspapers in Salem, Vinton, Craig County, Montgomery County and the City of Radford, along with a paper in Patrick County and five weeklies in West Virginia.

They are privately owned and operate under Virginia Media and Mountain Media, with no affiliation with BH Media Group, a subsidiary of billionaire Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Co.

“We’ll continue to be Botetourt’s community newspaper— with our focus strictly on Botetourt County,” McCoy said.
