Samir Davidov was LB’s No. 1 player last year and he’s back.

The high school golf season is always the first to get underway for the fall sports schedule, and both Lord Botetourt and James River open next week.

The Cavaliers will be participating in the Heritage Invitational on Monday, August 2. Returning from last year’s top six will be Samir Davidov, Ashton Harper, Jake Koffman, and Dylan Salvi. Coach Todd Smith is also looking for some other returnees to step up, among them Cadyn Bowles, Hunter Duncan, Xavier Shelton, and Cole Leavens

“We have some returning golfers who didn’t play in many matches last year that will need to step in this year,” said Smith. “We should be pretty strong again this year, but Franklin County is always good, Northside has improved over the past few years, and William Byrd has a bunch of good golfers.”

James River will open on Thursday, August 5, with a Three Rivers District match at Carroll County. Returning golfers include Ryan Steger, Silas Miller, Joey Schroeder, and Dylan Hicks.

“They will all be very strong this year,” said Knights coach Donna Cox. “We have a few new golfers coming out this year, and I’m looking forward to seeing what they can do.”

As usual, the Three Rivers District should be strong.

“I’m sure Floyd and Radford will return very strong teams this year, so we have our work cut out for us,” said Cox. “But I know we can be competitive. I’m excited to get back on the course.”
