The James River swimmers will host Lord Botetourt, Glenvar and Radford on Thursday night at the Botetourt Family YMCA for the annual “Swim for the Cure” meet. The first whistle is scheduled for 7 pm.
James River’s first Swim for the Cure meet was held in 2009, raising money to fight cancer. The team will recognize survivors and those affected by cancer while swimmers, staff and spectators are encouraged to wear pink.
Last week the Knights celebrated Senior Night. After recognizing the team’s only senior, Kingston Bean, the girls defeated Northside, Fleming, Roanoke Catholic and Martinsville. The boys’ team defeated Northside, Fleming, and Martinsville, but lost to Catholic.
First place finishes for the girls included the medley relay and 200 free team of Gracie Matre, Lydia Jones, Sarah Lorman and Riley Persinger. Individual winners included Persinger in the 100 back and 100 free, Jones in the 200 free and Lorman in the 100 breast.
For the boys the team of Harrison Hanna, Kingston Bean, Austin Myers and Joel Barber won the 200 medley and 200 free relays. Hanna won the 500 free, Myers won the 200 free and 100 backstroke and Barber won the 200 IM and 100 breast.
“It was an amazing night for Knight swimming,” said coach Kitt Williams. “Harrison Hanna had an amazing 25-second drop in the 500 free and Lydia Jones and Austen Myers both dropped time in their swims. We would like to thank Dr. Womack, Mr. Boblett, and Mrs. Kyle for supporting our team and recognizing our only senior, Kingston Bean.”
Lord Botetourt had two meets last week. On Jan. 20 at Christiansburg, Max Miszuba won the 100 fly and 100 back. Lucas Dehr took first in the 100 free and Landon Sharp won the 100 breast.
On Jan. 23 at the Gator Center in Roanoke, Miszuba won the 200 and 500 free and Julia Misicko took seconds in the 200 free and 100 fly.
