Jake Braun pitched five innings of one-hit shutout baseball before Glenvar scored three runs in the sixth to ruin his night on Tuesday. The Highlanders took a 3-1 win over the Knights at Glenvar High.
River scored a run in the top of the first off Glenvar ace Ryan Butler and that’s how the game stood through five and a half innings. Glenvar then put together four hits along with a few River errors in the bottom of the sixth to pull out the win and sweep the season series from the Knights.
The loss snapped a two game winning streak for the Knights. Last Friday at Radford the Knights took a 7-3 win behind Braun with relief help from Kevin Austin and Gabe Sebastino. Andrew Bridges was three-for-three with a double for the Knights.
“We did well to come away with a win,” said River coach Matt Goucker. “It was great to see us play good team baseball and move runners when we needed to score runs.”
Last Tuesday in Low Moor the Knights beat Alleghany in a district game, 5-1. Andrew Middleton picked up the win with a complete game effort, scattering five hits and fanning eight. Sebastino had two hits.
The Knights are now 4-12 and they’re home tonight for “Senior Night.” The regular season will conclude Friday with a trip to Carroll County.
