Mountain Valley Preservation Alliance, Inc. (MVPA) invites citizens from Botetourt County and neighboring communities to attend its annual meeting event on Saturday, June 30 from 1-4 p.m. at the historic Christiansen House, 5552 Plank Road, Lexington.

The Christiansen House is located not too far from the Botetourt County line in the Short Hills/Plank Road area of southern Rockbridge County.

The theme is “Exploring a Forgotten Time in a Lost Community”

This 1871 farmhouse has been restored by Arvid Christiansen, who, using photographs and researched documents, began to return it to its original design in 1998.

Now completed, it is furnished with early 1900s period furniture, including some pieces from the Logwood family who originally built the home.

Attendees are encouraged to bring photographs, memorabilia, artifacts or stories to share about the Short Hills/Plank Road neighborhood.

The three-hour event will include a home tour and talk by Christiansen about his restoration efforts, a free lunch that is being provided by the MVPA Board of Directors, and a brief annual meeting to review 2017 MVPA projects as well as planned activities for 2018.

After the house tour, lunch and meeting, and if there is adequate interest, an added tour of nearby stone work structures— initially crafted to support the B&O railroad— will be held.

Although there is no cost to participate in this event, registration is required by June 23. Both the registration form for the house tour and annual meeting, and membership forms can be accessed and processed online at the MVPA website: mountainvalleypreservation.org.

General membership is $30 for an individual, $50 for a couple with $100 to $500-plus partnership memberships available.
