As luck would have it, the tanker crash on US 220 in Botetourt County happened shortly before my cataract surgery appointment. I called the Sheriff’s oOffice to find out the best way to access the ramp to I-81. I made it with time to spare.
Since then, I am really impressed with the work VDOT is doing to repair the considerable damage to the road and culvert. The detours were quickly set up after the accident and traffic is moving without a problem. The men are working in all kinds of weather including rain. They are replacing a HUGE 110-foot section of pipe beneath US 220N. Every time I drive by them and all their equipment and piles of stuff, I want to yell out, “Way to go, fellas. Thanks for a job well done.” VDOT rocks!
