James River will host Lord Botetourt in a jayvee-varsity baseball doubleheader in Springwood Thursday. The jayvee game will begin at 5 p.m. with the varsity game to follow.
Lord Botetourt has a busy week. The Cavaliers have three road games in the span of five days, with a trip to Franklin County on Friday and a game in Pulaski on Monday. The Cavaliers are hoping to rebound after falling to Hidden Valley at home this Monday, 18-0.
The Cavaliers are now 1-4 on the season. Last week they picked up a win at home when they concluded a game that had been delayed by darkness against Magna Vista in Ridgeway. The game was picked up where it left off in Daleville and LB ended up winning, 18-12.
Over the two combined days Garrett and Emory Lonker combined to drive in nine runs for LB. Garrett had three hits and Emory had two, and Jaidan Pennix also had three hits for the Cavaliers. Kobe Hairston picked up the win on the mound.
The regularly scheduled game followed and LB wasn’t as fortunate in this one, falling 10-7. Coach Todd Smith used four pitchers with freshman Jackson Crenshaw taking the loss while yielding three runs, none of which were earned. Brady Kish had two hits and two runs batted in for LB.
