James Allen Welch, 78, of Buchanan, went on to Glory on Sunday, June 26, 2022.

He was preceded in death by his previous wife of 41 years, Dorothy “Dot” Sparks Welch; parents, Marion “Major” and Mildred Welch; sisters, Faye Boley, Mary Sparks, and Louise Thomasson and husband, Henry “Hawkeye”; and brother-in-law, Michael Johns, Sr.

Jimmy was a dedicated man of God and faithful member of Gospel Light Baptist Church.  He was a generous hardworking man of few words and many talents.  Being an avid fisherman, he enjoyed spending many hours on the water with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of almost eight years, Betty Radford-Welch; sons, Tommy (Becky) Welch, James (Amy) Welch, and Bobby (Lisa) Welch, step-son, Larry (Kim) Foscoe; step-daughters, Missy (Allen) Newcomb, Joyce (Joe, Jr.) Lugar, and Vicky (James) Campbell; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; sister, Patsy Johns; brother, Gayle (Adrianna) Welch; and special brother-in-law, Raymond Sparks.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, at Springwood Baptist Church followed by a Celebration of Jimmy’s Life at 12 noon at Gospel Light Baptist Church. The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, at the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff and nurses at Good Samaritan Hospice and in lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to the hospice at 2408 Electric Rd., Roanoke, 24018. Online condolences may be made at www.botetourtfuneralhome.com.
