The James River swim team competed at the Salem YMCA last week in a meet against Glenvar, Staunton River, George Wythe and Fort Chiswell, and the River boys outswam all four competitors.

Placing first for the Knights was the boys 200-yard Medley relay team of  Nathan Etzler, Walker Wilson, Alex Campbell and Colin Cook. The 200 Free relay team of Etzler, Cameron Rodgers, Wilson and Cook took a second.

Individually, Wilson took a first in the 50 Free and a third in the 100 Butterfly. Etzler won the 100 Free and a second in the Backstroke.

River swimmers also placed in the 100 Breaststroke. Drew Whitson was second in the girls race and Campbell took a third in the boys 200 Breast.

Lord Botetourt swam in a four-team meet in Alleghany County last week. The Cavs swept three opponents in combined scores, defeating Carroll County, William Fleming and host Alleghany.

“We had a relay, or individual swimmer, place first in all but two events that we were entered in,” said LB coach Ashley Safrit. “All of our relay combinations were different from last week, and I think swam very well together.”
